hi all
I wanted to make a project just like yours that can provide us with just surfing the internet and emails we are all friends. we purchased a 14dbi antenna with 0.5 watt amp and an access point but every day the signals are fading and did not know why. but when i was searching, i found your website and your project and i hope that you help me building our own network. Just Free Internet For All. All the project is donnations but small ones we even purchased the antenna with about 100 dollars equalls 550 EGY pound and that is very expensive

hi hossam,
I have no idea why your signals would be fading each day, unless the signal fade coincides with weather conditions or something. Here in Myrtletown, we didn't do anything especially fancy, just put a 1.0 watt amp on our wireless router and attached an antenna to it.
However, one thing that was very helpful for us was using dd_wrt on our wifi device, and using that to adjust the power settings of the built-in amp until we achieved maximum signal strength in our neighborhood. If you aren't using dd_wrt, you should be. Check it out here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
Best,
darsh

hi darsh
thank you for you reply, i read in your website that the antenna you are using is custom made or as i understood is home made and you made it. If it so Please tell me how you built it and what i will need and i will be thankful. and if it is possible illustrating drawings would be helpful
